New way of typing on mutlti-touch tablet (just idea)

EDITED 2 (24/7/2012) Heh heh heh hee hee hu hu ha ha (joker's laugh)
So last week I thought of an idea about the BlindType, but then I immediately realized that it has been done about 2 years ago.
But now I am thinking of implementing the blind type technique into my finger tracking kinect application. So it would make typing in the air possible, without good accuracy.
Please dont KS me anymore, let me SCIE this time!
EDITED: After I blogged about this idea, then I start google about it if anyone has done it before.
And... yup, there is existing application doing the same thing, and it seems very good.
So... I am outdated... for about 2 years...
Please refer to the link http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/08/08/blindtype-keyboard-to-come-to-android-type-anywhere-on-your-phones-screen-even-with-no-keyboard-present/
But blindtype never gets to the public, it was bought by google, and google has been implement the technology in android 4.0
However there is still 1 thing google didnt implemented, the main power of blindtype, which is type anywhere on the screen.

Typing on smartphone is hard, most of people rely on predictive keyboard (T9, swype, swiftkey)
On smartphone, I personally favor swype although bunch of people say swiftkey tends to be very intelligent over time, and it can predict most of your next words.

But well, on tablet, swype isn't a very good input method. As you need to swype through a very long distance, it is very tired..

While the screen on tablet is bigger, people tends to go back to the original = typing on the on-screen keyboard. Because the area is big enough, and each key is individual enough, it can simulate the typing on keyboard action.

However, it is not true at all. The experience is still very much different from typing on a real keyboard, it is not even close! I am not saying about the tactile feedback here, nor the hand feeling.

User still need to look at the on screen keyboard on the tablet when they are typing, it makes the typing experience sucks, and it slows down the WPM. I am not going to explain deeply on the experience here.

When we type on a real keyboard, we don't need to see the keyboard at all. (for average users and above, not for noobs)
What if we can simulate the same experience on tablet?

So my idea is:
We can type randomly on the tablet screen (I mean anywhere), the same way we did on normal keyboard.
Then a software will capture all the points, and predict the word we type.
Don't understand? Let see some picture.
For example, when u type "l o v e r", as shown in next picture
your finger land on the location by sequence(highlighted in red color)
we assume that the location where your finger lands, will be almost the same for a particular alphabet, everytime

lets remove the keyboard background and see what we have there

So we got some unknown locations, in sequence
and some relative distance for each sequence

And we also have relative distance for next n-th sequence for key 1 correspond to key 3, key 4 or key 5

With so much information gathered, we can predict the word we just typed

When u start pressing first key, the software recognize the location, then when u type the second key, the software recognize the location, and calculate the relative distance to the first point. And so on...
finally it predict a word based on the collected points.

Remembered when I say you can type on anywhere on the tablet screen?
let see some example if it is possible

versus

Even if you type anywhere, the relative distance, and sequence will be ALMOST the same for each particular word. So, it doesn't matter. The intelligent software will predict your word by calculating the location, relative distance, and etc.
So I can say it is very possible and feasible.

Since swype and swiftkey is so clever, it must be possible.
swype can predict a word based on the keys u swipe through, while swifkey can predict your word even you only type the 1st alphabet, and even predict ur next word.
Combining swype, swiftkey with my idea, then it makes perfect typing experience on tablet!

Above was just my little tiny idea.
I cannot make it possible due to lack of skills especially in text prediction.

Security project

A simple encryption between sockets

Android remote downloader client talk to server side application using socket programming.
The packet is actually just a string, but encrypted with AES256 and SHA512.
Future improvement include better structure of socket packet instead of string, and using SSL.

idea: VR fps gaming using body mount sensor + HMD

Previously I had an idea
to make a realistic VR fps gaming environment using shoulder mount kinect.
The shoulder mount kinect is for detecting palm and finger direction, utilizing my finger tracking skill, altho shoulder mount kinect is abit similar to microsoft research "omnitouch", but I it is quite similar to the "sixsense" actually.
Combine with a hmd such as sony hmz-t1 or SMD st1080, it could make a realistic VR.
I have tried kinect with openNi (50cm), it is barely close enough to detect the finger unless I mount it in the best position. I have also tried the kinect zoom but it decrease the resolution so bad. The only choice i have is to buy the kinect 4 windows and paired it with kinect sdk 1.5 that can detect down to 40cm.

Anyway, with the intro of leapmotion sensor, I hope it is possible to mount it somewhere around chest or stomach, facing UP and detect the hand.

We could also add in tactile feedback with a tactile vest, or electrotactile pad, or electro stimulation.
Of coz a threadmill can be added in for movement. Else we can also use kinect to detect leg movement.

Some updates

27/4 korean exam
30/4 deadline for kiice paper

10/6 deadline for nicky webdav project
15/6 korean final exam
~15/6 lbg ogg matlab (gonna ignore)
20/6 deadline for cute2012 paper (still lack multiuser, multitask, multichunk)
24-27/6 jeju conference?
28/6 kiice conference
onwards...  need new good idea for journal or even master thesis
hoping to get a leapmotion and SMD st1080 for some hobby project. Wont do too much in IAI lab anymore.

idea from previous post
is to combine with my hand tracking system
Use smartphone camera to capture frame, but dont process it in the phone, send to home/cloud pc, process there, pass the result back to phone for user interaction.

previous idea cont...
utilize google app engine or amazon ec2+s3+blah blah blah as a SaaS.
or combine android app (front end) with google app engine (backend) as cloud computing concept
{read google IO 2011/2012}
But a good idea for app is required...

Next new idea:
since each cloud storage provider only gives around 2-5GB free spaces.
And each of it require user to install the provider android app, such as dropbox, box and google drive.
We can create an app that show all the cloud storage in 1 place, using the API provided.
Although ES file explorer, Sandisk Memory app, Primadesk, SMEStorage already has this feature.
But my idea is a little bit different from them.
Their app just allows user to view the different cloud storage in 1 place, while ES also provide moving files from 1 cloud to another cloud. (I am not sure how they do it, is it the phone as the proxy to transfer?)
My idea is to make a big centralized storage pool, by combining all the little spaces from various cloud storage provider. It is a Poor Man Solution to obtain big cloud storage capacity, without paying anything.  The application should not just showing the different cloud storage in 1 page, instead the software stack must perform some extra stuffs such as
  1. Using the APIs, connect to different cloud storage, get the list of files and display to user as 1 big list. (location of each files maybe be in different server, but the info is stored in 1 DB)
  2. Combine with the virtual storage concept, which I did with my webdav app. Download, upload, copy, move, delete, Progressive Streaming, Open (cache to disk), Writeback (upload back) should be supported.
  3. When user upload files,  he does not need to care about choosing server. The software stack will decide for him. As he actually just sees it as a big pool of storage. (Storage virtualization concept)
  4. Auto load balancing, first perform speed test with the different server, and intelligently decide where most of files will be stored in. (choose faster server)
  5. split files into few parts and upload to different server
  6. show a single file to user, where the file is actually splited into few parts and located in different server
  7. download from different server and join as 1 single file
  8. ...

need to think some idea for cloud computing
currently keep stuck within home based virtual storage, nothing much to 发挥
but cloud computing usually big scale, not suitable for research also
so i currently focus in small scale cloud computing, maybe will use google app engine or amazon aws
but what can i do with small scale cloud computing + smartphone?
as smartphone computing power has been increasing exponentially. there is almost nothing smartphone cannot do or not enough speed to do
So actually there isn't a MUST to outsource the cpu intensive task to cloud, the smartphone can handle it without problem. So personally i think cloud + mobile is just some extra thing

another big problem is home-based cloud computing is that ur pc/server must be on 24/7. it is not eco-friendly.
If use the free google app engine/ amazon aws, then that is not main purpose already. Others ppl can develop web-based app on google app engine/amazon aws, there is no need ME to develop on it

So what can I do with small scale cloud computing system? How can it benefits end users?

I have 1 idea currently
is to combine with my hand tracking system
Use smartphone camera to capture frame, but dont process it in the phone, send to home/cloud pc, process there, pass the result back to phone for user interaction.

this is the best that i could think for now
